Going Green A Wise Choice
People have been talking about going green everywhere.
Just look at the ESB (Empire State Building) is in the process of a major sustainability retrofit to become one of the leading examples of economic and environmental revitalization. Oh and if you are touring the ESB, be sure to see the Zalman Silber Skyride.
Whether it be an advert on TV talking about recycling, or local people talking about saving the environment, being Eco friendly, or green as they call it, is a big topic that keeps on getting bigger. But, is there really any need to be green and if so why?
One of the main benefits about living green, is the positive effects it will have on our planet. Our dumps and landfills are continuing to be loaded with garbage that never breaks down, and our use of fuels is destroying the planets ozone layer which acts as protection for the earth. If this continues to go unchanged, in time our ozone layer will be depleted allowing dangerous UV rays to penetrate, and our planets temperature will continue to rise due to increased carbon dioxide levels. This has lots of knock on effects, such as rising sea levels and more hostile environments for us to live in. Our garbage dumps are continuously being packed with more and more trash that is in fact recyclable. Because of advancing technology, cans, bottles and paper shall no longer be the only things that can be recycled, soon pretty much everything will be able to be recycled. If we can start to utilize a lesser number of resources by just recycling, we can actually start to make a difference by decreasing pollution
The following reason is to help save animals which are dying out. Right now we cut down a lot of trees in wild rain forest’s, which are home to a variety of endangered species. As we continue to strip mine our planet we are exterminating wildlife which we will never see again. As said above we can now recycle, so we don’t need to cut down as many trees and some companies are now planting two trees for every tree they use. The problem here though is that trees take hundreds of years to grow to their full height which is a very long wait. We can actually save more trees and our wildlife by simply recycling all of our paper products. That little step can help reduce the amount of trees that need to be taken every year.
Thirdly, products that are organic and environmentally friendly are much better for our personal health and well being. Organic foods are one way of becoming green for health reasons. Foods that are not organic in nature, are loaded with chemical fertilizers, insecticides and also pesticides which can cause health issues and also pollute our planet. All of these added chemicals aren’t good for us and could cause illness, so its best to stay away from them. The alternative is organic foods, which have nothing added to them, meaning they’re totally natural. There’s a higher price to pay for organic and natural foods, but undoubtedly its a cost really worth paying if your overall health is held in the balance?
I definitely think that its essential to become green, particularly in this point in time when we are beginning to see the results of climate change brought on by our pollution of the environment. Needless to say it’s not necessary to start off big, you can begin simply by growing your own organic and natural produce.
