The Coming Renaissance of Wedding Favors
Are wedding favors going out of style?
It’s an ancient tradition but not many seem to know of it these days.
Of course, a proliferation of businesses online and off still exist that sell wedding favors, the variety of which seems to grow by the year.
In fact, whereas once these presents were restricted to a certain set range of opportunities, the modern wedding favor can be almost anything at all, as long as it is provided by the bride and groom to their guests.
Because of this, it is arguable that wedding favors are more imaginative than in the past.
Once upon a time, these gifts were basic though expensive things such as almonds and sugar cubes (yes, these commodities were once quite rare and cost-effective only to the rich) boxed in precious containers of fine laquered wood or crystal glass and studded with gems (which remain expensive to this day).
Now, a wedding favor can be anything from candles or candy-filled wine glasses to a signed photo of the happy couple and a CD of their favorite music!
Another factor in the apparent decline of wedding souvenirs for guests would be the undeniable fact that ceremonies at city hall are more well-known than ever, so much so in fact that New York City has just spend several millions of dollars on revamping its own marriage bureau’s reception area.
In a bid to compete with Las Vegas, which according to educated industry observers has long been the number one destination for a marriage ceremony in the country, the Big Apple has changed the facilities handling civil marriages from staid old-fashioned government offices to colorful consumer-oriented showpieces designed to attract some of Sin City’s multi-million dollar business. But with such extravagence in the air, perhaps the wedding favor will discover not downfall but a renaissance in popularity!
